TAM London is over, and what an ‘amazing’ meeting it was. I’ve had such incredible feedback from delegates and speakers alike, I’m so happy it was enjoyable and worthwhile. We’ve had some great press coverage including today’s leading BBC online magazine story (also flagged on the BBC news homepage), and some lovely blog reviews including this one from Londonist. Lots of people asked when the DVD will be ready, and I can confirm it’ll be available for sale by Christmas 2009. We’ll also be putting some clips online, and of course the official photos taken by the wonderful Kelly Haddow will be on the TAM London Flickr account soon.

I will be posting a proper breakdown, with thankyous etc soon, but this is just a quick note to say “that’s that!”. Well…almost. One more free fringe event to go, the Pub Quiz tomorrow (Wed 7th) at 7pm, Penderel’s Oak, Holborn. We need an idea of numbers in advance, so please sign up here: http://tamlondon.org/signup/pubquiz.php – if you’re planning a team then make sure all of your team members are on the list.

Hopefully see you all there!

You may remember me from such events as “Skeptics in the Pub”, “The Amaz!ng Meeting” and “An Evening with James Randi & Friends”. As a member of Tracy’s Skeptical Dream Team I have the role of organising some lovely free events, for all to come along to and enjoy the nerdish love of Ye Olde London Towne.

We have a few skeptical events at hand – open to all, but limited by numbers, unfortunately. I hope you’d like to come and join us. You will be able to put your name down for the events once the forms have gone online, which will be later this week. I’ll post an update and links when that happens.

The first event is a skeptical/science pub-crawl on the evening of Wednesday 30th September.

We’ll be scurrying around central London, seeing some of the sites that made scientific history; from where James Randi fooled a maths professor into thinking he was a bona-fide psychic – until he revealed that he was just a “mere magician” – to the place where DNA’s structure was discovered (well, the evidence for it), and possibly, the location of where Daniel Dunglas Home levitated out of a top-floor (third story) window. It’ll be a great way to meet people in London if you’re new to the city, or make new friends and acquaintances if you are not. The tour will be guided by Myself and London aficionado Matt Brown, Editor of The Londonist.

We will also be gracing the Linneaus Society of London’s archives for a guided tour on several afternoons (from Weds 30th Sept, to the Friday 2nd October, depending on numbers). A wealth of the knowledge Carl Linneaus accrued over many years and lead to the binomial system of taxonomy. Many of his original samples have been preserved in the fire/bomb/water-proof safe in the basement of the Societies’ building. You’ll be able to see them all.

On Friday 2nd October, please join us for a tour of the famous Wellcome Collection, based in Euston. A treasure-trove of Henry Wellcome’s medical, spiritual and magical trinkets collected on his travels around the world. We’ll be treated to a closer look at the Wellcome Library’s special collections on medical quackery, and other mystical and magical thinking documents of the time. Many thanks to the Wellcome Trust and Research Officer, Ross MacFarlane for making these provisions possible.
If you’re still around after the conference (Monday 5th October), there are places for a morning and early afternoon tour of the Darwin Centre Building, which provides world-class storage for precious collections – including some of Darwin’s own specimens. Dr Karen James (Director of the HMS Beagle Project) will show you what the National History Museum’s scientists get up to in the new building and what they intend to do with all the historical exhibits and samples they’ve collated over the last couple of hundred years. Not to be missed!

There will be several other events to be confirmed, but please do feel free to email me at sid@tamlondon.org with your queries and/or reservations.

In light of recent health changes, I can confirm that James Randi will not be flying over for TAM London on medical advice. Instead, we hope to set up a live internet link so you can talk to Randi, ask questions, and hear him talk live from Florida . His health at present allows him to do this but of course we’ll keep you updated if anything changes. There’s a statement from Randi here.

The live link will ensure that TAM London remains an entirely unique event, and on that note I am pleased to announce that George Hrab, skeptical musician and broadcaster, will be joining us for TAM London . George is extremely popular amongst skeptics and is a welcome addition to the line-up.

If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Tim is a comedian and musician and the writer of the incredible poem ‘Storm’ that recently went viral in the skeptical community and beyond. Storm is being made into an animated film and I have great pleasure in telling you that TAM London delegates will be treated to a private preview as part of Tim’s talk.

I also have some disappointing news. Unfortunately Richard Dawkins will no longer be able to join us at TAM London due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict. However, he has very generously offered to supply a DVD gift to every delegate, which you will find in your delegate pack.

There may be one or two people who were coming to TAM London *only* to see Professor Dawkins – if you are one of those folks and can’t bear the thought of the weekend without him, please let me know via info@tamlondon.org, we do have a refund policy in place and there is a huge demand for tickets, so we should be able to sort something out.

Apologies for any inconvenience,

Tracy

Excellent news – we have another 50 tickets to TAM London available. Given the mad dash for tickets the first time round, and the vast number of people who tried to book, we think the fairest way to distribute the new tickets is via an ‘opportunity to buy’ draw.

Excellent news – we have another 50 tickets to TAM London available. Given the mad dash for tickets the first time round, and the vast number of people who tried to book, we think the fairest way to distribute the new tickets is via an ‘opportunity to buy’ draw.

So, if you have not already booked for TAM London and would like the chance to buy a maximum of two tickets, you will need to register your email address – here’s how it works:

1) Send an email to tickets@tamlondon.org from the email address you wish you register. You don’t have to put anything in the email (unless you really want to), the subject and body won’t be read.

2) You will receive an automated response confirming you’ve been added to the database.

3) 25 email addresses will be chosen at random on Sunday 7th June. If yours is chosen, you will be notified by email no later than Monday 8th June 2009 with a link to buy a maximum of two tickets.

4) Your purchase link will expire after two weeks. If you have not made a purchase after that time, another email address will be drawn.

I’ll sending this message out to the email mailing list later, in the meantime if anyone has any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at info@tamlondon.org. I do reply to every email personally, although I can’t guarantee a very fast response at the moment.

Ts & Cs are below, please read them

Good (skeptical) luck!

PS Sorry for the cross-post with Facebook!

Terms and conditions

Existing delegates are not eligible to enter the draw. If you are already coming to TAM London and want the chance to buy a ticket for a friend, get them to enter instead.

Delegates must be named at the time of booking, and a valid postal and email address provided for each. If you do not need the second ticket, it will be returned to the pool and another email address drawn.

REGISTRATIONS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE AND TICKETS CANNOT BE RESOLD. This is extremely important! Only the delegate(s) named during registration will be admitted to TAM London. We will refuse entry to anyone holding a resold ticket. If you register and later require a refund, please contact the organisers.

JREF and its agents reserve the right to change or withdraw the terms and conditions at any time. An ‘opportunity to purchase’ email does not constitute a binding agreement.
